Cutler-Hammer is a commercial electrical equipment manufacturing company based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before it merged and became a division of the Eaton Corporation. It was founded in 1893 by Harry Cutler and Edward Hammer from Brook line, MA and Cleveland, OH respectively. The business is a reorganization of an earlier venture built in 1892 called the Chicago Electric & Manufacturing Co. The company manufactured speed regulators, field rheostats and electric motor starters. Later in 1898, it was bought out by a Milwaukee company, American Rheostat Co., adopting the corporate name Cutler-Hammer.
